Boston Microdermabrasion-Safe Facial Skin Care For Acne Control and Skin Rejuvenation

If you are starting to see fine wrinkles, brown spots or other signs of aging skin, or if you are troubled with acne outbreaks, then you should learn more about microdermabrasion. Microdermabrasion is a safe, medically proven skin care treatment which provides deep exfoliation and skin rejuvenation with no discomfort and no down time.

Microdermabrasion and Micropeel™ are two of the most common anti-aging skin care, acne control and wrinkle removal methods in use today. However there are a vast number of microdermabrasion machines available but only very high quality microdermabrasion machines will produce an effective peel and a visible wrinkle removal and anti-aging skin care and acne control result.

More importantly the microdermabrasion machines used in a doctor’s office are permitted to be stronger and more effective for anti-aging wrinkle removal skin care than machines sold to a spa or salon. Aestheticians who do microdermabrasion and Micropeel™ vary greatly in their skill and understanding of these techniques. Medical Aestheticians working in a physician’s office are specially trained and experienced in microdermabrasion. The fact that they work under the supervision of a doctor allows more effective microdermabrasion and wrinkle removal skin care treatments to be done.

Your result is very dependent on how your peel is done and how good the medical aesthetician and her microdermabrasion machine are. Below I will discuss how Microdermabrasion and Micropeel™ work, what they can achieve for you, the best machines, and secrets on how you can tell if you receive a good treatment. If you have sun damage, brown spots or pigment, or acne outbreaks, deep exfoliation with microdermabrasion is an excellent, safe, effective skin care for these problems. See before and after pictures of microdermabrasion results below and note removal of pigment and fine wrinkles:

How Microdermabrasion Works

Microdermabrasion is a deep exfoliation technique that removes dead and damaged skin cells from your face, neck and décolletage skin. After the treatment new fresh skin cells are revealed and the skin looks and feels smoother. Superficial skin pigment or brown spots will be lightened. Fine wrinkles will be plumped. Acne outbreaks and inflammation can be reduced and the skin cleared of acne lesions significantly.

Microdermabrasion also removes skin debris and unclogs pores which is very helpful for acne control. After microdermabrasion topical acne medications can penetrate better and be more effective at acne control. See before and after pictures of microdermabrasion and improvement in acne control below:

Studies have shown that after repeated treatments fine wrinkles are improved, new collagen forms in the deeper skin layer called the dermis, and sun spots are gone or significantly lightened. There are significant facial rejuvenation and anti-aging skin care benefits:

Benefits
• Deep Exfoliation
• Removal of Sun Damage
• New Collagen Growth in Dermis
• Acne Control
• Fine Wrinkle Removal
• Better Penetration of Retin A and Other Topical Agents

The technique uses a small glass tube with a hole on the side. A constant suction is passed through the tube by the machine and small sand like silica particles are passed through the glass tube by the machine.

As the tube is passed over your skin, the suction pulls your skin up into the stream of rushing silica particles and the passing particles abrade or remove dead skin cells that are dry, damaged and pigmented. This is exfoliation.

The Best Microdermabrasion Machines Are In a Doctor’s Office

Companies that make these machines are only allowed to sell de-powered units to salons and spas. These weaker machines just are not effective. If you want to see effective results you need to have your treatment by an experienced medical aesthetician in a doctor’s office.

We use the Megapeel™ machine. Dermagenesis™ is another good brand. Many machines just do not have enough power to provide adequate suction to abrade the skin.

There have been many new chemical machines which do not use the silica particles, but my patients prefer the standard original method using suction and silica particles.

How To Tell A If You’ve Had A Good Treatment

• Your skin will be pink or red
• Your skin will feel smooth
• Your skin will be slightly irritated
• You may have some skin peeling after a day or so

Micropeel™

Micropeel™ is a combination of dermaplaning (scraping dead and damaged skin cells off of the surface of your face with a scalpel) followed by the application of a dilute AHA (glycolic acid) solution to the skin. This is often called the “lunchtime peel” because the Micropeel™ can be done and you can usually return to work right after the peel.

The Micropeel™ provides both mechanical (dermaplaning) and chemical skin peeling. While this sounds more complex, the Micropeel™ is a gentler lighter peel. We use the Micropeel™ for:

• Dry Skin
• Sensitive Skin
• Patients with Rosacea

Salicylic Acid, which is stronger than dilute glycolic acid, can be used for an even deeper peel. When Salicylic Acid is used the technique is called Micropeel Plus™.

How Long Does A Treatment Take?

These treatments take about 30 minutes.

What Do These Treatments Cost?

Effective treatments with better machines and proper technique are done in a doctor’s office by an experienced medical aesthetician. They will be more expensive than those done in a salon or spa.

In Boston where I practice the following are typical costs:

Micropeel™-$70.00
Microdermabrasion-$125.00

Where Should I Have My Treatments Done?

The benefits of having these treatments by a medical aesthetician in a doctor’s office are:

• Medical Supervision
• Stronger, More Effective Wrinkle Removal Treatments
• Access to Prescription Topical Skin Care Medications
• Proper Safe Management if You Have A Problem

These are my favorite no down time non-surgical facial rejuvenation procedures. These deep exfoliation techniques plus topical Retin A and Vitamin C Serum are the foundation of anti-aging skin care for all of my patients. For patients who have acne, Clindamycin topical antibacterial, Pro-Heal Serum, Diferin, and other prescription drugs are used to control acne outbreaks.

These techniques work, they are safe, effective and pleasant to experience. What could be a better way to start the anti-aging skin care process? It is never too early to start. Teenagers benefit greatly from microdermabrasions for acne control and smooth skin.
