Dear Dr. Seckel, I am a 30yr Indian woman with a dark complexion. I would like to lighten my skin color to a very light shade. What would you recommend for skin bleaching, skin whitening or skin lightening. What is the most effective and safest way to begin this process. Also, are there procedures that would work? Thank you, Nancy, New York.
Dear Nancy,
In my opinion there are no safe procedures to lighten dark skin to white skin. Very deep laser treatment can remove pigmentation but the result would be uneven color, possibly deep scarring and a very noticeable demarcation line on the neck where the dark skin would begin again.
The best treatment to lighten skin color is the use of a skin bleach such as Hydroquinone 4% which is a prescription drug. Microdermabrasion® treatments can help remove any blotchy hyperpigmentation and can improve the penetration of the Hydroquinone.
Why give up your dark skin-with dark skin you wont age as much and are much less likely to develop wrinkles!
