Dear Dr Seckel, I recently got your book and could not put it down-Very informative!! I have a prescription for Glyquin. I am 34 year old healthy female with a tendency for break outs and brown staining-I have brown patches on my cheeks that I attribute to the sun-My question is should I use the Glyquin on just the patches or a small amount on my entire face as I have read it will only lighten the pigmented areas? Also is there anything that will interact with the Glyguin that I should not put on my face?? Jenn, Milford, MA
Dear Jenn,
Glyquin® is an excellent anti-aging cream with the added benefit of pigment control and wrinkle removal. It may be used over your entire face.
Glyquin® contains not only Hydroquinone which controls pigment but also glycolic acid which is skin exfoliant and also stimulates the production of new collagen in the skin to help wrinkle removal.
Because Glyquin® contains glycolic acid I would not use any other glycolic acid containing product or Retin A or other skin exfoliating wrinkle removal Retinoid because the combination could cause skin irritation.
You mentioned that you have occasional acne breakouts. Glyquin is a very moisturizing cream and is usually best for dry skin as opposed to oily skin. If you find that Glyquin is too oily and does cause breakouts there are other very effective creams for pigment removal, are not oily and can very effectively prevent breakouts. Obagi skin care makes an excellent non-surgical facial rejuvenation system for pigment removal, prevention of breakouts and acne, and correction of skin aging changes including wrinkle removal.
As always, consult a board certified physician for advice and treatment.
