Dr Seckel is there anything I can do to remove crow’s feet permanently. Botox is a temporary cure. What can remove crow’s feet permanently? Thanks, Leslie, St Louis, Mo.
Dear Leslie,
You are correct in your assertion that Botox only provides a temporary correction of crow’s feet. Botox is a very satisfactory solution for crow’s feet around the eyes for most people.
There is however a more permanent solution for crow’s feet. Once the crow’s feet have become permanent lines in the skin around the eyes, deep skin exfoliation with laser skin rejuvenation can be a very helpful adjunct to Botox for removal of crow’s feet.
Laser skin rejuvenation techniques called laser resurfacing or deep repeated Microlaserpeel or a new laser skin rejuvenation treatment called the activefx laser skin peel can smooth out the wrinkles and irregularities in the skin caused by the contraction of the muscles around the eyes which cause crow’s feet. Laser skin resurfacing requires prolonged recovery and can result in loss of pigment, so microlaserpeel and the activefx are newer more preferred laser skin rejuvenation techniques.
However even after laser resurfacing, activefx laser peel or Microlaserpeel, Botox must be used to prevent new crow’s feet from appearing in the smooth new skin around the eyes after the laser skin rejuvenation is completed. Thus there is no permanent correction for crow’s feet unless one continues to have Botox injections periodically, every 6-9 months.
