Dear Dr. Seckel, Thank you so much for your response to my questions regarding the lasers. I was wondering if there is a laser that tightens the skin for the face and neck. I really do not need a face-lift at this point. Does the LaserGenesis® (Laser Genesis) work for tightening? With LaserGenesis, how long do the pore decreasing results last after the initial 5-7 treatments? Thank you. Dee

Dear Dee,

First, in answer to your question about pore tightening with the LaserGenesis®, once the pores have tightened the result should be permanent as long as you take the necessary steps to prevent sun damage and aging damage to the collagen in your skin. Follow the steps outlined in Chapter 4 of my book Save Your Face and see a board certified physician for a non-surgical facial rejuvenation and anti-aging skin care program.

Although the LaserGenesis® treatments do not tighten skin I am happy to say that there is an exciting new non-surgical skin tightening therapy available from Cutera® the same company that makes the LaserGenesis® system. The machine is called Titan® but it is not a laser, rather infrared light energy is used to tighten the skin. Titan® skin tightening treatments must be repeated 2 or 3 times over a period of three to four months. While Titan® skin tightening does not give the same result as a face lift it can be very helpful for the young person like yourself who does not need a facelift and only has early laxity of neck and jaw skin.

There are also other exciting new non-surgical facial rejuvenation skin tightening machines available. LuxIR skin tightening machine made by Palomar also uses infrared energy like the Titan skin tightening machine. Thermage and Aluma skin tightening machines use radiofrequency energy to tighten the skin, and refirme by Syneron uses a combination of different light energies to tighten skin. All of these machines do tighten skin but by about 30% of the amount of skin tightening you get with a face lift. Skin tightening is not a non-surgical face lift.
