Dear Dr. Seckel, I am considering Thermage Face lift but was wondering in general what the price range is from lowest it could cost to highest. Thank you, Bette, Burlington, MA.

Dear Bette,

The Thermage is a skin tightening machine, can cost $4000 a treatment and needs to be done 3 times-the second and third treatments can cost 500-2000. Thermage is painful and results are inconsistent and can take 1 1/2 hours. Skin tightening is the newest non-surgical facial rejuvenation program available. It is not a face lift which is the gold standard for facial tightening.

There are several new skin tightening machines available now including Titan, LuxIR, Refirme and Aluma with FACES. The newest skin tightening machine is called Aluma® with FACES® which is much less painful than Thermage® and takes only 15-30 minutes. Prices are less than Thermage®, 2200 to 2500 for the first treatment and about 500 for each of the next 3 treatments. The Aluma® FACES® machine is very new and not widely available yet.

Skin tightening is not a face lift and definitely is not a non-surgical face lift. If you need a face lift and think skin tightening will give you a non-surgical face lift you will be disappointed. Skin tightening machines give you about 30% of the skin tightening that a face lift achieves, and does not work in everyone.

I have had this done to one side of my face once with a demo unit and can tell you it definitely works. I also notice that not only is my skin tighter but my wrinkles are improved.
