Dear Dr. Seckel, I just had evolence, a soft tissue filler like Collagen injected under my eyes because I wanted to avoid a blepharoplasty. I now have lumps and bruising. I’m sure the bruising will go away, but the lumps look worse as if I have folds under my eyes. After three days the doctor injected a slight amount of cortisone and said that it is probably swelling, he’s never seen this before. I am scared I don’t know what I did; I was hoping that my eyes would look 50% better. I had Restylane around my mouth, very slight difference, but no lumps. Shouldn’t this doctor know what to do if the lumps are actually from the evolence that he used? Thank you, L, Toronto, Canada
Dear L,
Evolence is a cross-linked collagen soft tissue filler that is purported to last 12 months and is used for non-surgical facial rejuvenation.
The lumps are the actual collagen material and should dissolve over time but may last up to 12 months although usually collagen is gone much quicker.
Massage the lumps-this should smooth them and help dissolve the collagen.
I recommend that no attempt be made to inject anything to try to dissolve the material.
Injecting anything around the eyelid for eyelid rejuvenation is dangerous, even board certified Ophthalmologists are very careful about injecting around the eye.
I do not do filler injections around the eyes, fillers like Restylane, Radiesse, Hylaform, Cosmoplast, Sculptra and others should not be injected around the eye in my opinion.
Unfortunately there is little you can do but wait.
I am sorry.
