Dear Dr. Seckel, I am scheduled to have Smartlipo laser liposuction on my tummy. The doctor said I could return to work the same day. I have read your blog about Slimlipo which you seem to prefer. What are the risks of laser liposuction? My doctor assured me that laser liposuction was safe. I have searched the net and found nothing about laser liposuction risks and complications. I have a pre op appointment next week and assume I will be told the risks then. I know all surgeries have risks and I am surprised I can find nothing on the net about the risks of laser liposuction. I have read about the risks of regular liposuction but no information seems to be available about laser liposuction. Thanks for your help, Lindsay, Boston, Massachusetts.

Dear Lindsay,
Thank you for your email about the risks of laser liposuction. Laser liposuction is a new procedure so there is not much information about problems, risks, and complications published yet.
Much of the marketing for laser liposuction, laser liposculpture and laser body sculpting give the impression that the new procedure is a safe, risk free, [...]

Dear Dr. Seckel, I have purple or blue dark circles under my eyes. I also have a lot of blood vessels under my eyes. I have used a concealer eye cream but the dark circles show through. I have read about laser eye surgery for dark circles but I don’t have eye bags, just dark circles under eyes. Can the laser remove blood vessels from the skin under the eyes? I think if I had fewer blood vessels showing the dark circles under my eyes would be lighter. Do you recommend the laser? Thanx, Donna, Boston, Massachusetts.

Dear Donna,
Thank you for your email about dark circles under eyes. You are very perceptive, as most people do not recognize how often small blood vessels can cause dark circles under eyes.
If you see small red and purple blood vessels on the lower eyelid and the skin has a blue or purple color then blood [...]

Dear Dr. Seckel, I think I need a cheek lift. I had a face lift 2 years ago, not by you but by someone else. I was bruised for several weeks and had a tough recovery. But now I still have sagging cheeks and sunken cheeks. I thought a face lift also was a cheek lift. How come my cheeks still sag and look sunken in? On your website the pictures of the face lift show full pump cheeks. Is there any way to fix sagging cheeks and sunken cheeks without surgery? I don’t want another face lift. You talk on your website about non-surgical methods-can you do a non-surgical cheek lift. I am 45, very fit and look young everyplace but my sunken, sagging cheeks. Please help, Brenda, Boston, Massachusetts

Dear Brenda,
I am sorry to hear about your experience with sagging cheek and sunken cheek after face lift. I always try to make a cheek lift an integral part of any face lift I do. Often, many face lift procedures focus only on the neck and jaw line, and miss the cheek lift and one [...]

Dear Dr. Seckel, I am interested in an eye lift. Can an eye lift be done with the laser? My upper eyelids are hanging down tpo my eye lashes. My friend had an eye lift but she had a bad time. She was very bruised for several weeks and now she looks kinda surprised. I don’t want to look weird after an eye lift. I just want a small eye lift to get rid of the hoods. Is there an eye cream that really works for eye lift? I read that the laser is better. How come the Laser eyelift is better? Thanks, Patti, Boston, Massachusetts.

Dear Patti,
Thank you for your question about eye lift. Expecting an eye cream to correct puffy eyes, bags under eyes, and eye hoods is like putting an aspirin on top of your head to cure a headache.
Modern eye lift eyelid surgery can rejuvenate the eyelids and remove tired eyes, puffy eyes, bags under eyes, eye [...]

Dear Dr. Seckel, I am writing to ask about laser skin care. I have some fine wrinkles and sun spots on my face. I do wear sun block. Can laser skin care remove wrinkles and brown spots? What is the best laser? Does laser skin care hurt? Will my face be red-for how long? I have used Retin a and sun block but still see wrinkles and brown spots after a year. I hope that laser skin care can fix my problem. Thanks, Sheri, Boston, Massachusetts.

Dear Sheri,
Thank you for your question about laser skin care. The new lasers in use today are much gentler and pinkness after laser treatment is usually only 4-5 days. Discomfort is controlled with topical anesthetic which is usually used for most laser skin care procedures today. i am going to answer your questions by reprinting [...]

Dear Dr. Seckel, I am noticing brown spots on my cleavage and neckline skin even when I am not tan. It makes my cleavage and neckline look old. I have a nice full cleavage but the brown spots embarrass me and I don’t want to wear a low neckline gown or blouse any more. Can brown spots and aging skin on the cleavage and neckline be treated? What are the best treatments for the cleavage and neckline area? Thanks, Darlene, Boston, Massachusetts.

Sunday, December 14th, 2008

Dear Darlene,
The cleavage and neckline skin, also called the décolletage has been the hallmark of youthful feminine beauty, sensuality and sexuality throughout history. Why then is the cleavage and neckline skin the most neglected when it comes to anti-aging skin care?
Lack of awareness I believe. We are used to carefully studying our face when [...]

Dear Dr. Seckel, I am 38 and starting to notice lip wrinkles and my lips are less full. I have heard about lip augmentation and am interested but a bit scared. How complex is lip augmentation. I don’t want huge Goldie Hahn lips. Is that the way everyone looks after lip augmentation? I would like to have full plump lips without lip lines and wrinkles. Does lip augmentation involve surgery? Can Restylane or Juvederm be used instead to plump the lips? How much does lip augmentation cost? Thank you, Darlene, Boston, Massachusetts.

Saturday, December 13th, 2008

Dear Darlene,
Thank you for your question about lip augmentation. I am posting my article on lip augmentation for you below.
Many people consider lip augmentation or lip enhancement to have fuller lips. Lip augmentation or lip enhancement not only plumps the lips but reverses aging changes like lip wrinkles and thin long lip. There are many [...]

Dear Dr. Seckel, I am interested in Restylane or Juvederm to fill my nose to mouth lines and lips. A friend of mine had filler and had lumps. Is there a risk of lumps with Restylane and Juvederm? I have heard that Restylane and Juvederm are the best fillers. How long do they last? What are the risks of Juvederm and Restylane? Does the shot hurt? Thanks, Betsy, Boston, Massachusetts.

Dear Betsy,
Thank you for your questions about Restylane™ and Juvederm™. Both Restylane and Juvederm are excellent fillers and work well and are safe when used by an experienced dotor. To answer your several questions I am going to use an article I have published on Restylane™, Juvederm™, Radiesse™, Sculptra™ and Perlane™. results can be beautiful [...]

Dear Dr. Seckel, I have crow’s feet and want to get a botox injection. But I am scared of botox. A friend of mine had a botox injection and had a drooping eye. I also have heard you can get a headache after botox. Does botox really cause food poisoning? I want to have botox to get rid of my crow’s feet but I don’t want to get sick! Can you please tell me more about botox and its safety? Does botox really remove crow’s feet/? Thank you, Dianna, Boston, Massachusetts.

Friday, December 12th, 2008

Dear Dianna,
Thank you for your question about Botox™. I will best answer your Botox™ question by using an article that I have written about Botox™.
Is Botox™ safe?
Yes when FDA approved Botox™ made by Allergan™ is used according to approved dosage by experienced licensed physicians, in my opinion.
What Is Botox™?
Botox™ is an injectable medication that relaxes [...]

Dear Dr. Seckel, I am 34 and am interested in anti-aging skin care. I am starting to see crow’s feet and fine wrinkles. I have tried several wrinkle creams but see no difference. What is an effective anti-aging skin care program for someone in their 30’s? Thank You, Claire, Boston, Massachusetts.

Thursday, December 11th, 2008

Dear Claire,
Thank you for your question about anti-aging skin care. There is no face lift in a jar and a real anti-aging skin care wrinkle cure has not been invented.
There are however many new non-surgical anti-aging skin care methods to improve wrinkles, refresh your facial skin, and restore a youthful look to your face. [...]
