Dear Dr. Seckel, I have been doing research on getting a mini face-lift and laser resurfacing. I am 51 and feel like I look 80. I have been told that the mini face-lift won’t help me to get a facelift. Also, the laser resurfacing was told that I need to do this but ill still have wrinkles. I am so confused. I was wondering if I could send you my pictures? Can you tell me what you know about the Active FX and the C02 laser and which would work for me with some fine & deep wrinkles? Also have sagging cheeks and neck. Thank you, Lee, Wilmington, NC

A mini lift and neck lift is a full face lift–you are getting confused on terms that are used in Marketing to pull you in–make you believe you are getting something that is minimal–unfortunately the results are minimal or negligible and don’t last

Dear Dr. Seckel, I have had Botox injected successfuly twice. This time I went to someone else and the Botox didn’t take. What could cause this? Thank you, Alitha, Longville, GA

my first thought would be outdated Botox. After dilution Botox is good for 2 weeks only

Dear Dr. Seckel, I am 42 with major sun damage. I have fair skin, and no rosacea. I had 2 Fraxel procedures a year ago to remove sun damage. They were done 2 months apart. Now I am left with large dark brown patches on both cheekbones. They are very obvious. Even makeup cannot hide them. I am devastated. I’ve been using Tri-luma for 3 months with NO success. I am religious about applying sunscreen (Ti-Silc) and a hat for facial sun protection. Fraxel was very painful and had a long downtime. Is there any hope for me? IF IPL laser is suggested, is it painful? does it truly have no downtime? Thank you, Roxanne, NJ.

It is also VERY IMPORTANT that whoever treats you have a lot of experience using IPl.

Dear Dr. Seckel, I hope you can help me with my problem, a year ago I had Radiesse injected into my cheeks, I now have clumps on both of my cheeks and it’s not resolving. One Dr.told me it has to be cut out. I am worried because I cant stand they way my cheeks look but at the same time I don’t want to have a permanent scar on my face. Please advise me on what to do. I cant visit you because I am from Egypt, although I really wish I could, I really trust your professional opinion… Diana, Cairo, Egypt

I strongly urge you not to have surgical removal of Radiesse. The scars would be worse than the bumps.

Dear Dr. Seckel, I am suffering with dark circles under my eyes. As everyone, I don’t have enough money to make a surgery or laser correction. all I can do is buy the best cream and apply or do home remedies. I have also tried so many brands of creams, but no change. So I would be grateful of you to recommend me the best cream to reduce the dark circles and also the basic way I can do it from my home. Thank you, Nissa, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Dear Nissa,
Hi, I’m Cheryl, Dr Seckel’s Medical Aesthetician.
Dr. Seckel asked if I could help with your question about skin creams for dark circles under the eyes. I have to say I have received good feedback about the Teamine eye complex it contains Vitamin C, and K which helps minimize dark circles under the eyes. […]

Dr. Seckel, I have a question if you don’t mind. I had a Botox treatment several weeks ago and it made my eyelids droop. This is not my first experience with Botox, but this was the first time I used this Doctor, I warned her that in the past, the eyelid droop had happened and I did not want it to happen again! It did. I went back after two weeks to show her, and of course she was very upset and said this had never happen to her before. I have had this procedure probably 6 times over several years, it seems to happen every other time, what’s the deal, the doctor or me? One more question, the doctor felt badly so she offered a “skin tightening” procedure, I did it, it hurt! After reading your book this weekend it has made me question this procedure, (they want me to have 5 more sessions) I called today to find out what the laser is called and all she could tell me was it was a Light pulse laser. What do you think? Thank you, Christi, Boston,MA.

The Botox is being injected too close to the eyelid muscle; it “drips down” into the eyelid and weakens the eyelid muscle

Dear Dr. Seckel, I have malar bags (festoons) one of which is at least twice as big as the other. I have been told that a blepharoplasty will not correct festoons. Do you know of any treatment to help improve this? I’ve been told direct excision is the only way to correct this, but due to the scar factor, no one I have consulted with is willing to do it. I would appreciate your expertise on this matter. Thank you in advance. Paula, Windsor, ONT.

The most common complaint about festoons arises after a blepharoplasty has been done to remove puffiness or bags from the lower eyelids

Dear Dr. Seckel, I am a 26-year-old female with very dark under-eye circles. They are hereditary and I have had them since I was small. I was considering and even booked an appointment with a South African doctor who was planning to inject a fat filler into the skin under my eyes or perhaps perform a blepharoplasty. I am a bit concerned about both options and would like to know your opinion. Many thanks and hope to hear from you soon, Linda, Capetown, South Africa

Results of fat injection into the eyelid have not been good in my opinion and complications including ectropion and injury to the eyeball have been reported

Dear Dr. Seckel, I just had evolence, a soft tissue filler like Collagen injected under my eyes because I wanted to avoid a blepharoplasty. I now have lumps and bruising. I’m sure the bruising will go away, but the lumps look worse as if I have folds under my eyes. After three days the doctor injected a slight amount of cortisone and said that it is probably swelling, he’s never seen this before. I am scared I don’t know what I did; I was hoping that my eyes would look 50% better. I had Restylane around my mouth, very slight difference, but no lumps. Shouldn’t this doctor know what to do if the lumps are actually from the evolence that he used? Thank you, L, Toronto, Canada

Injecting anything around the eyelid is dangerous, even board certified Ophthalmologists are very careful about injecting around the eye.

Dear Dr. Seckel, Can you tell if the mini face lift, this is where they put an incision, in front of the ear and around to the back of the ear and pull the skin up, this is just for the lower portion of the face. They call it the Lifestyle Lift. Can you tell me if this does really work and how long will it last? It was on television, of course all the people who they showed looked great. Their necks were firmer looking and it did seem to take about 10 -20 years off their age. I am thinking about getting this done, but not through checking this out. I need a board certified plastic surgeons advice, and this is why I am writing you. Any information you can give to me will be greatly appreciated, and will thank you in advance for your time and any information you bestow on me! Thank You, Susan, Boston, MA

Very skilled experienced surgeons take from 1 to 2 hours to do a full-face lift—I have seen inexperienced less skilled surgeons take 14 hours!
