Dear Dr Seckel, I am 40 years old and have 40 years of sun damage and age spots on my face. I am looking for a procedure with minimal down time because taking time off from work is not an option. I’d appreciate any suggestions, thanks, Jill, brigantine, NJ

Dear Jill,
I wold start your facial skin rejuvenation and pigment removal program with a good skin cream such as Epiquin®, Glyquin®, or Retin A® and Hydroquinone and a series of 4 microdermabrasions®.
After that IPL or photo facial treatments can certainly help remove pigment and the brown spots and any blood vessels or red flush. IPL […]

Dear Dr. Seckel, Could you tell me what the downtime would be for eyelid rejuvenation surgery with fat grafting (transconsunctival laser blepharoplasty)? Thank you, Gail, Methuen, MA.

Sunday, February 19th, 2006

Dear Gail,
The eyelid rejuvenation procedure called transconjunctival laser blepharoplasty with arcus marginalis release and fat grafting or fat repositioning usually requires 10 days to 2 weeks for recovery.
This eyelid rejuvenation operation also called an eyelid tuck is most commonly done to remove eyelid bags and dark circles under the eyes and correct the tired look.
The […]

Good morning Dr Seckel! How are you? First of all, your website is very interesting. As I’ve read, you seem to have a lot of experience with blepharoplasty, how many have you done so far?? I have dark circles since I’m young and they are getting worse and I’ve read it can corrected or improved with an arcus marginalis release. In your archive, you’re talking that you can add alloderm or a piece of rubber. How does the rubber stay in place? After the surgery will your dark circle come back? Finally what’s the price for that surgery? By the way, I’m living in Quebec, which isn’t far from your office in Boston and I’m considering an appointment with you. Thanks a lot! Bye Frank, Quebec, CN.

Dear Frank,
Thank you for your question. I congratulate you on your knowledge and the fact that you are reading to be informed-that is very important when considering plastic surgery, especially so when considering eyelid surgery.
Blepharoplasty or eyelid lift and laser eyelid rejuvenation are my favorite operations. I do them frequently, every week. I have done […]

Dear Dr. Seckel, I have one dark spot on my face under my left eye. I am using tri-luma skin crème. Should I treat the spot or the whole face? I would like to know what you think about lasers for people with medium to dark skin? Would lasers still be a good idea? I only have one dark spot that I really need help with but the tri-luma is turning the area around the scar lighter do you have any suggestions? Am I using it wrong? Will the laser treat this problem too? What is IPL and Photo facial rejuvenation? Thank you, Claresse, Adelanto, CA.

Dear Claresse,
Tri-luma skin cream is excellent for removal of pigment and removal of brown spots and skin pigmentation. Try the Tri-luma just on the dark brown spot for pigment removal that does not lighten the surrounding skin.
Laser skin rejuvenation peels can be used on medium to dark skin but there is always risk of […]

Dear Dr. Seckel, I had a blepharoplasty operation to remove puffy eye bags under my eyes and I think too much fat had been removed and now I have one eye that looks hollow and bulging out, and at a glance it still looks like I have a bag under my eye, but it actually its my eyeball sticking out! What can I do? Teri Los Angeles, CA.

Sunday, February 12th, 2006

Dear Terry,
From your description of the hollow appearance of your eye following your blepharoplasty I suspect your diagnosis is correct and that too much fat was removed during your blepharoplasty giving you hollow eyes. When too much fat is removed during the blepharoplasty on the lower eyelid, the lower eyelid sinks in and the eye […]

Dear Dr. Seckel, I am 52 years old and I had a consultation with a Cosmetic Plastic Surgeon to have a facelift, along with Erbium peel done on my lower eyelids and botox. Since the procedures are very expensive, I was wondering if you would recommend having the lower eyelids down with the laser and the botox and waiting to have the facelift, or go ahead and wait to have it all done at once, which is what he wants to do? From what I have read, the downtime may be high for the laser treatment, compared to the facelift. Thank you, Jenny, Salem, OR.

Dear Jenny,
I always recommend to my patients that they take their time in deciding to have a major facial rejuvenation procedure. I also tell my patients frequently to do smaller non-surgical facial rejuvenation options and save their money for expensive surgery later on. I don’t think people should spend money they can’t afford on cosmetic […]

Dear Dr. Seckel, I have hollow eye socket with dark circles under my eyes. Please suggest safe and relatively long lasting technique to correct the same to visible extent. Thank you, Kirty Soni, India

Friday, February 10th, 2006

Dear Kirty,
The most long lasting eyelid rejuvenation technique to correct dark circles under the eyes and hollow eyes involves a blepharoplasty or eyelid rejuvenation surgery with fat grafting to fill out the hollow eye socket. I do this operation through the inside pink part of the eyelid using a technique called a transconjunctival laser blepharoplasty […]

Dear Dr Seckel, Yours is the most informative site on eyes I have seen. I had an upper lid blepharoplasty, skin excision only, and there is a scar on the outer aspect of both eyes. I had fat injections to the malar crow’s feet. I’m not sure if this scar is the access area the surgeon used but I now have lower eyelid descent - and degree of ectropion which is frightening. I’m wondering if fat was removed as well. Please help me if you can I would like to come and see you. Thank you. Linda, London, England.

Friday, February 10th, 2006

Dear Linda,
Thank you for your question. I am so sorry to hear of the problem you have suffered following your eyelid rejuvenation blepharoplasty and fat injection but would reassure you that techniques are available to improve your scars and correct the ectropion. The most important thing for you to do is to seek consultation with […]

Dear Dr. Seckel, I’m still saving for a blepharoplasty or the fat injection procedure to help with the dark circles under my eyes that you have recommended as the “gold standards” for this particular problem. While I continue to count my pennies, have you heard anything, positive or negative, about hylexin? Thank you in advance for your reply! Donna, North Chelmsford, MA.

Thursday, February 9th, 2006

Dear Donna,
I have searched for eyelid rejuvenation articles about Hylexin but have only been able to find testimonials on commercial sites. If you want to try Hylexin I would suggest you buy from one of the sites that offers a money back guarantee.
One site which had negative comments from users can be seen by clicking […]

Dear Dr. Seckel, What is the best “no down time” facial rejuvenation procedure? I am 42, healthy, fit and work a full time job. I see loose skin on my neck and wrinkles starting around my eyes but I cant take time out of work to have surgery or a laser operation. What are my best options? Thanks, Betsy, Boston, MA.

Monday, February 6th, 2006

Dear Betsy,
Happily there are many no down time non-surgical facial rejuvenation options available to you today. Botox® is one of my favorite “no down time” procedures which for wrinkle removal which can dramatically improve crow’s feet, frown lines, worry lines and even help the downturn of the corners of the mouth.
Microdermabrasion® provides wonderful skin […]
