Dear Dr. Seckel, I HAVE DARK CIRCLE UNDER MY EYES, KIND OF HEREDITY BUT MY SISTER DOENT SHOW SUCH DARKNESS AS ME, I ALSO WEAR SPECTACLES AND I JUST WANT TO KNOW IF THERE IS ANY TREAT POSSIBLY ANY LASER TREATMENT AVAILABLE FOR THIS KIND OF PROBLEM. Thank you, Shaalini, London, England.

Dear Shaalini, If by dark circles under your eyes you mean the color of your eyelid skin, Laser skin rejuvenation treatment such as laser resurfacing, laser skin peel, laser peel, and other types of laser skin care can improve dark circles under the eyes if the dark color is caused by pigment from medications such [...]

Dear Dr. Seckel, Hello, I had a dermabrasion 7 months ago. Being that I’m Asian, I suffer now from color variation between my face (new lighter) and my neck (old darker). Is there any form of lasers or treatments out there that could help diminish this line? I know it will likely not ever go away fully, but just anything to help minimize the difference Thank you! Donna, New York, NY.

Dear Donna, Hypo pigmentation following dermabrasion of Asian skin is a common problem. Some pigment may return after 2 years, at that point you will know the final result. Newer less intense laser skin peeling or laser skin rejuvenation techniques can be used judiciously on the neck to try to lessen the difference-but laser peel [...]

Dear Dr. Seckel, I have dark circle under my eyes primarily as a result of the veins underneath my eyes. Also, I should mention that I have tan Asian skin type. Almost a year ago, I had laser treatment for my dark circle. After the treatment, I can see some of the veins that were visible before no longer there, however there is still the dark color appeared underneath my eyes. Can you please give me some advise on how to reduce these dark circles. Is there any laser out there that is safe to treat dark circles for someone with a tan skin type like myself. Please help. Thank You, Tuyet, Richmond, VA.

Thursday, February 23rd, 2006

Dear Tuyet, The quick answer is no, nothing can be done to change the dark color of the eyelid skin, unless the dark color is hyperpigmentation from sun or medication. Since you have already had laser skin rejuvenation or resurfacing I assume the color that is left is your natural skin color. I would not [...]

Dear Dr. Seckel, I am 52 yrs young. What is your recommendation for severe vertical lip lines? Regards, Clare, Somersworth, NH.

Thursday, February 23rd, 2006

Dear Clare, Lip rejuvenation, that is correcting vertical lip lines, called lipstick lines is one of the most difficult facial rejuvenation techniques today and one of the hardest facial aging changes to treat. Beautiful results can be achieved with proper technique: The best treatment is avoidance-if you are a smoker, stop smoking as smoking horribly [...]

Dear Dr. Seckel, I am 42 years old, and have some “sun” or “age” spots on my face, along with some fine lines and wrinkles developing and loosening skin on my neck. Is there a treatment I can do at home to help improve these signs of aging? Do you recommend in office treatment over home treatment? I am not interested in a face-lift at this time. I would like to eliminate the fine lines and wrinkles and give my skin a fresh new look. Thank you Laura, Peabody, MA.

Thursday, February 23rd, 2006

Dear Laura, Thank you for your question. The most important home treatments for pigment removal, age spots, sun spots, fine lines and wrinkle removal is sun block, antioxidant vitamins, not smoking, and a healthy diet rich in antioxidants and avoiding animal fats. I also recommend a good prescription anti-aging cream with pigment removal agents such [...]

Dr. Seckel, I am interested in finding our more information about the Sculptra procedure. I have had liposuction done in my chin and neck area which I am very happy with. However, I am not happy with the way that my neck area looks. There is some loose skin and lines in my neck. I’m not sure that I want a neck lift just yet (I’m 51 and in fairly good shape) so I’m wondering if Sculptra would be a solution. I look forward to hearing from you. Best regards, Leslie, Boston, MA.

Dear Leslie, Sculptra® is an injectable soft tissue filler which is used to plump up and camouflage the deep facial lines around the nose and mouth like the nasal-labial fold lines and marionette lines. Sculptra® is not used for skin tightening in the neck and would not help wrinkles and loose skin in the neck. [...]

Dear Dr. Seckel, I had laser resurfacing done on my entire face two years ago and most of the sun damage is gone. However, I have had several brown spots return on my cheek and on the top of my eyelid, which is a large patch. When I asked my doctor he said that this is part of my skin. Do you think it would be a waste of time to try and have these areas lasered again? The areas do lighten up but when I try and use a self-tanner those areas really jump out at you? Also, in your book you recommend Retin A but I was wondering what you thought of Renova for treating lines under my eyes and possibly the brown spots? Thank you, Jenny, Portland, OR.

Sunday, February 19th, 2006

Dear Jenny, I would not do laser skin rejuvenation or laser resurfacing a second time, your skin could become too white or hypo pigmented and you risk having a demarcation line at the neck where the skin that has not been lasered stands out. The best skin cream for your situation for pigment removal and [...]

Dear Dr. Seckel, I am considering Thermage Face lift but was wondering in general what the price range is from lowest it could cost to highest. Thank you, Bette, Burlington, MA.

Sunday, February 19th, 2006

Dear Bette, The Thermage is a skin tightening machine, can cost $4000 a treatment and needs to be done 3 times-the second and third treatments can cost 500-2000. Thermage is painful and results are inconsistent and can take 1 1/2 hours. Skin tightening is the newest non-surgical facial rejuvenation program available. It is not a [...]

Dear Dr. Seckel, I want to know if the droopy eye due to eyelid surgery can be repaired. I had a blepharoplasty and my left eye looks funny. Thank you, Jae Vikman, Beverly Hills, CA.

Sunday, February 19th, 2006

Dear Jay, I cannot be certain without examining you but a droopy upper eyelid after blepharoplasty eyelid rejuvenation surgery usually means that a muscle called the levator palpebrae superioris has been injured. This muscle, called the levator, functions to open the upper eyelid, and when injured during a blepharoplasty the eyelid droops, a condition called [...]

Dear Dr. Seckel, I am 29 years and I have eyelid bags from last 12 years. I am not interested in doing blepharoplasty or fat injection or collagen injection. By radiofrequency can eyelid bags get removed or get reduced? Thanks, Kanchan, India

Sunday, February 19th, 2006

Dear Kanchan, Unfortunately only blepharoplasty or the eyelid surgery known as eyelid lift or eyelid plasty can effectively remove eyelid bags and dark circles under the eyes and tighten skin. Blepharoplasty alone does not remove eyelid wrinkles. Radiofrequency has been used to remove eyelid wrinkles and tighten eyelid skin, but to be effective, radiofrequency needs [...]
