Dear Dr Seckel. Thank you for the input you gave me regarding my blepharoplasty questions. I have a brown skin type 3 or 4 and the doctor suggested that she would use profile sciton contour TM Microlaserpeel® to tighten the skin around the eyes. How many treatments are required for actual results and is it safe for my skin type? How long do the results last? She told me the tiny bag under one eye would not be noticeable if I went ahead with the treatment. Does that sound right? I did the snap test myself and the skin did snap back instantly. Although the wrinkles here are of less concern and the slight bag under one eye more so? How deep can she go with the laser for it to be effective. I only have a tiny bit of lax skin so I would consider secondary surgery with caution. She did say she could take the slight bit of fat out by transconjunctival surgery if needed later on. I would appreciate your advice. Harmohan

Dear Harmohan,
Since I have not examined you personally I cannot give specific recommendations for your treatment. Since you have seen a plastic surgeon who uses the Sciton® microlaserpeel laser skin rejuvenation technique you must depend on her advice for your treatment.
I can however speak generally about my approach to eyelid rejuvenation using the Sciton® microlaserpeel [...]

Dr Seckel, I have had the contour thread lift done about 3 months ago and do not like the outcome. Can the threads be removed safely and once removed, how long until my face get’s back to it’s original position? Thank you, Aaron, Tulsa, Ok

Dear Aaron,
Thank you for your question about the Contour® thread lift. I am happy to provide you with general information about the thread lift procedure, but since I have not examined you personally I cannot give specific advice about your particular case. I recommend that you consult your own plastic surgeon who performed the Countour® [...]

Dr. Seckel, Is there any surgery to correct dark circles under the eyes? I am 44yrs old I don’t have any eyelid bags however under my lower eyelids the skin is sunken in creating a dark circle under the eyelid. Dark circles under the eyes do run in my family. I do have a few fine lines on the eyelids. I have tried every topical cream available. I am desperate please help. Margaret, Canada

Thursday, December 29th, 2005

Dear Margaret,
Please do not be desperate there are many new effective treatments that can eliminate dark circles under the eyes. If you read Chapter 1 in my book Save Your Face you can learn what causes the dark circles under the eyes. In Chapter 9 I discuss the eyelid rejuvenation procedure used to correct dark [...]

Dear Dr. Seckel, I am considering having Fraxel laser treatments on my face to remove wrinkles. I have also heard of a treatment called Laser Genesis. Are they similar treatments and both good for wrinkles? Thanks, Mary, Atlanta, Ga.

Tuesday, December 20th, 2005

Dear Mary,
Both Fraxel and LaserGenesis are popular new non-ablative skin laser rejuvenation treatments for wrinkle removal and non-surgical facial rejuvenation. Laserresurfacing is the gold standard.
Although both Fraxel and LaserGenesis are laser skin rejuvenation techniques used to remove wrinkles by stimulating new collagen growth in the deeper layers of the skin, they work in very different [...]

Dear Dr. Seckel, I wanted to thank you for being the only informative writer I could find about the thread lift. I had the procedure seven days ago, and I am still VERY bruised and VERY swollen. The new facial structure I have is excellent. Unfortunately, I have several dents on one side of my face. I will be seeing my plastic surgeon tomorrow, but I do not know what is a reasonable timetable for the dents (possibly from swelling) to go away. I would also like to know if the bruising could be permanent? The sides of my face look similar to the color I had from deep acne scars that were permanent. One last question in case it happens to anyone else; could my jaw joints be so horribly tender because the lower threads are too tight? Thank you so much for your input. I feel like a freak because I did not hop out of bed the next day looking great. Sincerely, Jennifer, Clarksville, TN

Saturday, December 17th, 2005

Dear Jennifer,
I hope you have recovered from your surgery and are feeling better.
I am sure the bruising is only temporary and will be gone in 2 or 3 weeks. The dents hopefully will go away and are the point of attachments of the threads under the skin.
The soreness you feel in your jaw is common [...]

Dear Dr. Seckel, Thank you so much for your response to my questions regarding the lasers. I was wondering if there is a laser that tightens the skin for the face and neck. I really do not need a face-lift at this point. Does the LaserGenesis® (Laser Genesis) work for tightening? With LaserGenesis, how long do the pore decreasing results last after the initial 5-7 treatments? Thank you. Dee

Saturday, December 17th, 2005

Dear Dee,
First, in answer to your question about pore tightening with the LaserGenesis®, once the pores have tightened the result should be permanent as long as you take the necessary steps to prevent sun damage and aging damage to the collagen in your skin. Follow the steps outlined in Chapter 4 of my book Save [...]

Dear Dr Seckel, I recently got your book and could not put it down-Very informative!! I have a prescription for Glyquin. I am 34 year old healthy female with a tendency for break outs and brown staining-I have brown patches on my cheeks that I attribute to the sun-My question is should I use the Glyquin on just the patches or a small amount on my entire face as I have read it will only lighten the pigmented areas? Also is there anything that will interact with the Glyguin that I should not put on my face?? Jenn, Milford, MA

Saturday, December 17th, 2005

Dear Jenn,
Glyquin® is an excellent anti-aging cream with the added benefit of pigment control and wrinkle removal. It may be used over your entire face.
Glyquin® contains not only Hydroquinone which controls pigment but also glycolic acid which is skin exfoliant and also stimulates the production of new collagen in the skin to help wrinkle removal.
Because [...]

Dear Dr Seckel, I have rosacea and light brown skin color. I have skin thickening and was wondering if the Sciton MicroLaserPeel® might be a safe option. Jean-Francois, Mississauga

Saturday, December 17th, 2005

Dear Jean-Francois,
The Sciton® MicroLaserPeel® laser facial skin rejuvenation technique is safe for light brown skin as long as the procedure is not done too deeply. The average 40-micron microlaserpeel laser skin rejuvenation peel would be safe and should not cause any color change. Results can be excellent.
Rosacea can be made worse by any [...]

Hi Dr. Seckel:During your recent lecture you mentioned everyone should buy a Japanese Puff Pad for exfoliating the skin during washing. The only problem is that I cannot find it anywhere. Is there a web site or store that I can contact to purchase these pads? I even contacted your office in Lexington, and they advised me to email you. Please advise. Thank you, Sylvia

Saturday, December 17th, 2005

Dear Sylvia,
The skin exfoliating wash cloth you speak of is called the Salux Skin Cloth and may be found at http://www.asiachi.com/saluxskincloth.html. This is the at home skin exfoliation and wrinkle removal technique I mentioned during my talk in boston.
Be careful and dont scrub too hard or you may produce too much skin irritation. You want [...]

Hello Doctor. I have a few visible wrinkles under my eyes that I do not think will improve much using topical creams since some of them are really deep. Is there a laser treatment for this problem, or any other surgical procedure that will get rid of the wrinkles under the eye? George, Toronto, ON

Saturday, December 17th, 2005

Dear George,
I am happy to say that there are several new and very exciting non-surgical eyelid rejuvenation methods for effectively removing eyelid wrinkles. Excellent results are possible.
The most effective and quick eyelid rejuvenation method is laser skin rejuvenation treatment with the Erbium Laser called the microlaserpeel, although there is a 7-10 day period during which [...]
