Dear Maurice,
You’re complaint about the tired look is one of the most common I hear in my Plastic Surgery practice. Remarkable improvement is possible with laser eyelid rejuvenation.
Most commonly the tired look is caused by facial aging changes around the eyes, loose skin or hooding of the upper eyelids, and most commonly puffy eyes, eye […]

Dr. Seckel, I have heard there is a new Non-surgical Face lift. Is that true? Thanks, Denise, Berkley, Ca.

A face lift is a surgical procedure, which involves removing excess facial skin and tightening the remaining skin to give the face a fresh young tightened and lifted appearance. A face lift can very effectively rejuvenate the face by correcting the sagging brow, jowls along the jaw line, […]

Dr Seckel, Can you tell me about the microlaserpeel. Is it good for wrinkles? How long is recovery? Thank you, Denise, Beverly Hills, Ca.

Dear Denise,
The microlaser peel, often spelled MicroLaserPeel is one of the most effective new laser skin peel treatments for removal of fine lines and wrinkles on the face. Results of laser resurfacing for wrinkle removal can be beautiful! The chief benefit of the MicroLaserPeel skin peel is first that it actually works, unlike […]

Hi Dr. Seckel, My name is Thomas and I am trying to decide either to have a Fraxel laser or Microlaser peel performed but I am not sure which one will have the better results and fewer side effects. I am treating mild to moderate acne scaring, but I am also trying to improve the overall complexion and appearance of my skin. I am 33 years old and have had Acne since I was 15 years old but I don’t have any more breakouts I am just trying to have a nicer and smoother skin. Thank you.

Dear Thomas,
Both Fraxel and the Sciton Microlaserpeel laser type skin peels are used by plastic surgeons and dermatologiosts for mild acne scarring. The key is finding a plastic surgeon who is experienced in their use. My preference is the MicrolaserPeel using the Sciton Erbium laser or the ActiveFX laser skin peel. These ablative laser […]

Dear Dr. Seckel, How is it that the sun can cause aging by damaging the collagen and elastin, while IPL and laser rejuvenate the skin by the same method? Darcy, Spokane, WA

Saturday, October 1st, 2005

Dear Darcy,
Thank you for your very insightful question. Facial skin aging is caused by a number of factors of which the sun is a most important one. Ultraviolet radiation from the sun as you point out causes facial aging by direct damage to the collagen and elastin fibers in the dermis or deep layer of […]
