Dear Dr. Seckel, I recently had 3 Fraxel treatments for wrinkle removal and I am unhappy with the results. It has been 3 months and I still don’t see much improvement in my wrinkles in fact I have seen no wrinkle removal. The treatments were painful and I turned a copper color after each treatment and my skin peeled. I have fair skin with wrinkles and fine lines around my moth and eyes and smile lines in my cheek. I though Fraxel was the best. What do you recommend for wrinkle removal, Katie, Boston, MA.

Dear Katie,

Fraxel treatments have been very successful for treating pigment and acne scars. Results for wrinkle removal have been less dramatic. Multiple, deep, higher energy Fraxel treatments can improve wrinkles but most agree a different type of laser skin rejuvenation therapy is better for wrinkle removal.

I use the ActiveFX laser skin peel for […]

Dear Dr. Seckel, I am 45 years old and have fair skin. I really don’t look my age, but I am starting to see wrinkles and loose skin that I don’t like. I don’t want a face-lift. There are so many skin rejuvenation options advertised that it is very confusing. What are the best non-surgical facial rejuvenation options for wrinkle removal and tightening the skin on my face? Thanks, Molly, Boston,MA.

Dear Molly,
Fortunately there are many exciting new methods available today for non-surgical facial skin rejuvenation that do not require a face lift. While a face lift, called a rhytidectomy in medical terms, is still the “gold standard” and a face lift will give a very beautifully rejuvenated facial result, newer high tech non-surgical facial rejuvenation […]

Dear Dr. Seckel, I am considering having Fraxel laser treatments on my face to remove wrinkles. I have also heard of a treatment called Laser Genesis. Are they similar treatments and both good for wrinkles? Thanks, Mary, Atlanta, Ga.

Tuesday, December 20th, 2005

Dear Mary,
Both Fraxel and LaserGenesis are popular new non-ablative skin laser rejuvenation treatments for wrinkle removal and non-surgical facial rejuvenation. Laserresurfacing is the gold standard.
Although both Fraxel and LaserGenesis are laser skin rejuvenation techniques used to remove wrinkles by stimulating new collagen growth in the deeper layers of the skin, they work in very different […]

Dear Dr. Seckel, Are wrinkles inevitable? I am 35 and have good skin but I am starting to see crow’s feet around the corners of my eyes. Will the crow’s feet become permanent? What can I do to prevent that? Thank you, Leslie, Stowe, Vermont.

Saturday, November 12th, 2005

Dear Leslie,
Skin wrinkles and crows feet on the face are a classic sign of facial skin aging but they are not inevitable for everyone. Many people do not develop facial wrinkles and crows feet as they age, and I have seen patients who are in their 50’s who have facial skin that looks better than […]

Dear Dr. Seckel, What is the most effective skin exfoliation method for removing facial wrinkles? I have tried face creams but they don’t work. I have also tried microdermabrasion but I still have wrinkles. I don’t want to have the down time associated with laser resurfacing. Is there anything else? Thanks, Audrey, Scottsdale, Arizona.

Sunday, November 6th, 2005

Dear Audrey,
Yes there is a very effective method for skin exfoliation to remove facial wrinkles with minimal down time. It is the MicroLaserPeel® is a laser skin rejuvenation peel using the Sciton Erbium laser. The Erbium laser is called a cool laser because it does not burn the skin like the CO2 laser does, thus […]

Dear Dr. Seckel, I want to get rid of the wrinkles on my face and look younger but I definitely do not want to have Facelift surgery. What are the best non-surgical facial rejuvenation techniques for wrinkle removal? Thank you, Heather, Atlanta GA.

Sunday, October 30th, 2005

Dear Heather,
You have asked the question that most of my patients ask in my plastic surgery practice today.
Everyone wants to look younger and have wrinkle removal but most people do not want to have surgery. Happily there are many excellent non-surgical facial rejuvenation techniques for wrinkle removal available today. Facial aging is not just the […]

Dr Seckel, Can you tell me about the microlaserpeel. Is it good for wrinkles? How long is recovery? Thank you, Denise, Beverly Hills, Ca.

Sunday, October 23rd, 2005

Dear Denise,
The microlaser peel, often spelled MicroLaserPeel is one of the most effective new laser skin peel treatments for removal of fine lines and wrinkles on the face. Results of laser resurfacing for wrinkle removal can be beautiful! The chief benefit of the MicroLaserPeel skin peel is first that it actually works, unlike […]

“Dear Dr.Seckel, I am considering having laser resurfacing done above my lip (wrinkles). Which procedure, in your opinion, is most effective? (C02 or Fraxil).” — Sandy, Lexington, MA

Monday, August 1st, 2005

Dear Sandy,
Ablative laser Resurfacing with the CO2 or Erbium laser is the “Gold Standard”  for plastic surgeons and dermatologists for skin rejuvenation, lip rejuvenation, removing lip wrinkles and lipstick lines and wrinkle removal for the entire face.
The Fraxil is a non-ablative laser and would need to be repeated several times to achieve a similar […]

“Dear Dr. Seckel, I heard about your fabulous new book “Save Your Face” and can’t wait to get a copy of it! I had a general question regarding skin creams. Since turning forty 2 years ago I have been using a glycolic acid cream (10%) on my face, thinking it was superior to tretinoin because I would get a little tingling feeling when applying it. I noticed you spoke about tretinoin as the best cream for facial wrinkles, but how do the alpha hydroxy acids, like glycolic acid, compare? Should I switch to RetinA? Thanks for any info you can provide!? –Loriann, Billerica, MA

Dear Loriann,
Thank you for the email!
The alpha hydroxy acids, including glycolic acid are excellent skin rejuvenation, anti-aging skin products for age management and wrinkle removal, and I use them on everyone. I would keep using the one you use as a non-surgical facial rejuvenation program.
The tretinoins-RetinA and Tazarotine are a bit more powerful skin exfoliation […]

“Dr. Seckel what do you think of StriVectin for removing facial lines and wrinkles? I currently use Renova. Is StriVectin better? Thanks! –Patty, North Carolina

Friday, July 8th, 2005

Dear Patty,
Thank you for your very important question.
Renova® contains tretinoin, the most effective anti-aging, skin rejuvenation, and wrinkle removal skin cream on the market today. Keep using it! Tretinoin, the active ingredient in Renova®, has been for many years the only skin rejuvenation and anti-skin aging topical cream approved by the FDA which has been […]
