Fraxel laser problems-January 16, 2006-Dear Dr. Seckel, I recently had Fraxel on my face, neck and chest and found it rather painful even though I have a very high pain tolerance. I was told my face would have a sunburned appearance and minimal swelling for 1-3 days. I was swollen for 6 days and I still have redness on my right temple. I went to the doctors today and he said that I have acne or small case of rosacea. I have never had a pimple in my life and I am very worried that my skin will never be the same. I have looked at a zillion websites and cannot find any reaction similar to mine. Most show no side effects. I am on medication and he wants to do a photo facial on me this Wednesday. Is this ok? Have you heard of anything like this? Help… I am only 40 years old, and looked like a young 32 yr old – I so wish that I never done this. Joey, Austin, Texas.

Dear Joey,Please don’t worry; I am sure your skin will improve in time. Skin redness and irritation you describe can occur after a deep Fraxel treatment lor any laser skin rejuvenation procedure.
It is also common to have an acne type outbreak after any ablative laser skin rejuvenation procedure, which causes exfoliation on the face. The [...]

PLEASE HELP!! Drooping Eyes 40 year old – after Blepharoplasty. My boyfriend just had upper & lower eyelid (BLEPHAROPLASTY) surgery 11/30/05. Since the surgery both of his lower eyelids are pulled away from his eyes and after doing a lot of searching on the Internet, it appears that he now has ECOTROPION. He still has a lot of tearing plus irritation but we are assuming this could be because it hasn’t been but 10 days. He has an appointment with the doctor who performed the surgery this coming Monday. The doctor is telling him that he doesn’t want Mike walking around for another week or two with his eyes in the conditions they are in. Would you suggest the surgery be performed so soon? I have contacted a plastic surgeon in Oklahoma City, who has been highly recommended by many people… and when I contacted this surgeon, I was told that Mike should not even consider any additional surgeries for 3 to 6 months so that his eyes will have plenty of time to heal. Am just looking for someone else who has had this type of complication after the BLEPHAROPLASTY SURGERY. Also, for the upper eyelids, the line where the stitches were is very rough – not the least bit smooth. Should it be smooth by now or in your opinion, will it finally smooth out within time? Thank you so much in advance for any thoughts or words of advice!!

Dear Please Help!
From your description your diagnosis of ectropion is very likely correct. Other terms used to describe this problem are scleral show, sad eyed look, and hound dog eyes. You have taken the most important step by contacting a plastic surgeon who has a good reputation. His advice sounds appropriate. When you see the [...]

Dear Dr Seckel, I had a blepharoplasty done several years ago. I am happy because the eyelid bags are gone, but now my eyes have a sad look. Can anything be done to fix this. Thanks, Mary Beth, Dallas TX.

Dear Mary Beth,
Yes, the sad eyed look or hound dog eyes that happens to some people after blepharoplasty can be corrected. Of course the best cure is prevention. Modern blepharoplasty and eyelid rejuvenation techniques have been modified to prevent the sad eyed look so it does not happen in the first place.
To correct the sad [...]

Dear Joey,
Please don’t worry; I am sure your skin will improve in time.
It is common to have an acne type outbreak after any ablative laser skin rejuvenation procedure which causes skin exfoliation on the face. The Fraxel® does ablate (remove) tissue. Because the Fraxel® does micro ablation (unlike laser resurfacing which removes all of the [...]

Dr Seckel, I have had the contour thread lift done about 3 months ago and do not like the outcome. Can the threads be removed safely and once removed, how long until my face get’s back to it’s original position? Thank you, Aaron, Tulsa, Ok

Dear Aaron,
Thank you for your question about the Contour® thread lift. I am happy to provide you with general information about the thread lift procedure, but since I have not examined you personally I cannot give specific advice about your particular case. I recommend that you consult your own plastic surgeon who performed the Countour® [...]

Dear Dr. Seckel, I wanted to thank you for being the only informative writer I could find about the thread lift. I had the procedure seven days ago, and I am still VERY bruised and VERY swollen. The new facial structure I have is excellent. Unfortunately, I have several dents on one side of my face. I will be seeing my plastic surgeon tomorrow, but I do not know what is a reasonable timetable for the dents (possibly from swelling) to go away. I would also like to know if the bruising could be permanent? The sides of my face look similar to the color I had from deep acne scars that were permanent. One last question in case it happens to anyone else; could my jaw joints be so horribly tender because the lower threads are too tight? Thank you so much for your input. I feel like a freak because I did not hop out of bed the next day looking great. Sincerely, Jennifer, Clarksville, TN

Dear Jennifer,
I hope you have recovered from your surgery and are feeling better.
I am sure the bruising is only temporary and will be gone in 2 or 3 weeks. The dents hopefully will go away and are the point of attachments of the threads under the skin.
The soreness you feel in your jaw is common [...]
