Dear Dr Seckel-I had an Asian blepharoplasty, eyelid tuck or double fold eyelid operation or Asian eyelid surgery in Hong Kong. It was the Asian double fold 3 stitch operation, it was an incision method where three stitches were made on each upper eye lid and it was done in 5 minutes, the results are not satisfactory with lots of discomfort, bruising, swelling and its uneven. What are the long-term risks? I wonder if that is reversible? Can there be corrective surgery done and what does it involve and what’s the recovery time? What are the risks? I am not sure if the stitches are absorbable or if they stay in the eye lid- are there are further risks and length of time for when the stitches can be removed – I was told these stitches could be removed. Thanks, Carol, Australia

3 stitch Asian blepharoplasty

Dear Dr. Seckel I had the thread lift and I did not like the results. The tissue that was lifted up was pushed into my eyes making look as if I have bags. and I had the same problem I had dents when I went back the Dr moved them with her fingers. but on one side I still have a dent. It’s not the Dr’s fault it just the threads did not work for me and I wish I had never got them it didn’t correct the nasal folds at all. I am thinking about the weekend lift or lifestyle lift, as I don’t want the scars associated with the s lift. Thank you, Crazy girl

Dear Crazy Girl.
I am sorry to hear of your unfortunate experience with the thread lift. I have had other emails from patients who have had similar problems with the thread lift. Obviously the thread lift technique has not been perfected, and for this reason I do not do it. I prefer the classic face lift [...]

At the direction > of my Dr’s office, I’ve been using hydroquinone since the treatments. > Although in some areas and in some ways my skin does look better, I now > have terrible discoloration on both sides of my face and some on my > forehead. Have you ever heard of this side effect? My Dr’s office insists > that it’s not due to the Fraxel but I believe that it is. I am olive > complected and have relatively sensitive skin. > Thanks for any info! Leslie, San Diego, CA

Dear Dr Seckel, 2 years ago I had a lifestyle lift at the age of 42. The results were wonderful in the beginning but I was left with horrible scarring. I understood that I would have a scar in front on my ear, but I have huge scars 1/4″ below my ear that is thick and jagged. I look like I was in a car accident. I cannot wear my hair back or up and I can’t leave the house without self tanning lotion and heavy makeup. I wrote to the Dr. that developed this procedure but he has failed to respond. All I want to do is have this fixed, but I am concerned that this will be very difficult and expensive. Do you think I will have to have a full facelift to repair the scarring? Have you had any emails similiar to mine? Thank you for your time.Kelly, Jacksonville, FL

Dear Dr. Seckel, A year ago February, I had collagen fillers in my nasal-labial fold lines. I believe that the procedure was not done deep enough in the dermis, leaving to this day bumps and irregular shaped lumping. Looking like long worms! They appear sporadically and even with massaging take days to disappear. Can you explain why this might have taken place and what can be done about it? My friend, Cindy whom I am visiting in Fla, recommended I contact you. Judy, Hyannis, MA

Dear Judy,
I suspect your diagnosis is correct. When Collagen or any soft tissue filler is placed too superficial in the upper dermis of the nasal labial fold line it can create unsightly bumps and lumps.
I would recommend the massages you are doing. Gently massage directly on the bumps in the nasal labial fold line. I [...]

Dear Dr. Seckel, I had a lower blepharoplasty (not transconjunctival) and a rhinoplasty (tip area only) performed about a month ago. Since the surgery the outer corners of my eye have turned down (as if I was intentionally pulling them downward (the Sad Eye/Hound Dog Look you mentioned). The inner lid also is turned slightly out in the corners making me look like a different person. I have voice my concerns with my plastic surgeon and he says I look refreshed while others who know me say differently. I’m concerned that I may need corrective surgery however other specialists do not want to see me until six months or so. If the muscle is damage, does it ever correct itself and how long do most patients have to wait until there eye integrity is back again? Lee, Port Jefferson, NY

Wednesday, March 1st, 2006

Dear Lee,
The sad eyed look, also called an ectropion or hound dog eyes, following the eyelid rejuvenation procedure called a blepharoplasty is common after traditional scalpel blepharoplasty an eyelid surgery during which an external incision is made on the outside skin of the eyelid. The turned down lower eyelid not only looks bad but [...]

Dear Dr. Seckel, Hello, I had a dermabrasion 7 months ago. Being that I’m Asian, I suffer now from color variation between my face (new lighter) and my neck (old darker). Is there any form of lasers or treatments out there that could help diminish this line? I know it will likely not ever go away fully, but just anything to help minimize the difference Thank you! Donna, New York, NY.

Thursday, February 23rd, 2006

Dear Donna,
Hypo pigmentation following dermabrasion of Asian skin is a common problem.
Some pigment may return after 2 years, at that point you will know the final result.
Newer less intense laser skin peeling or laser skin rejuvenation techniques can be used judiciously on the neck to try to lessen the difference-but laser peel treatments on the [...]

Dear Dr. Seckel, I want to know if the droopy eye due to eyelid surgery can be repaired. I had a blepharoplasty and my left eye looks funny. Thank you, Jae Vikman, Beverly Hills, CA.

Sunday, February 19th, 2006

Dear Jay,
I cannot be certain without examining you but a droopy upper eyelid after blepharoplasty eyelid rejuvenation surgery usually means that a muscle called the levator palpebrae superioris has been injured. This muscle, called the levator, functions to open the upper eyelid, and when injured during a blepharoplasty the eyelid droops, a condition called ptosis.
The [...]

Dear Dr. Seckel, I had a blepharoplasty operation to remove puffy eye bags under my eyes and I think too much fat had been removed and now I have one eye that looks hollow and bulging out, and at a glance it still looks like I have a bag under my eye, but it actually its my eyeball sticking out! What can I do? Teri Los Angeles, CA.

Sunday, February 12th, 2006

Dear Terry,
From your description of the hollow appearance of your eye following your blepharoplasty I suspect your diagnosis is correct and that too much fat was removed during your blepharoplasty giving you hollow eyes. When too much fat is removed during the blepharoplasty on the lower eyelid, the lower eyelid sinks in and the eye [...]

Dear Dr. Seckel, I am a 37-year-old woman who had restylane injected under her eyes to reduce puffiness. It has been 3 weeks (had the treatment done 1/3/06) and now my eyes have dark circles and lumpiness under them. I am an African American woman. Will this last forever or will my eyes go back to its normal state? I never had dark circles until the restylane injection. Please help! My eyes look horrible. Is there any over the counter product you recommend to get rid of the dark circles under my eye? Thank you, Chantay, Ft. Worth, TX.

Sunday, February 5th, 2006

Dear Chantay,
I am sorry to hear that the Restylane® injection around the eyes has caused the dark circles and lumpiness under your eyes. I do not recommend Restylane® injection or other soft tissue filler injection around the eyes for eyelid rejuvenation because of these and other potential problems. Restylane filler injection is a good non-surgical [...]
