Dear Dr. Seckel, I am interested in labioplasty or labial reduction. My jeans and other pants cause serious irritation and I need this done for comfort. I have heard that you do a laser labiolasty. Is the laser labioplasty better and if so why. How long is the recovery period? Thank you, Janice, Boston.

Dear Janice,

I do use the laser to perform a laser labiaplasty or labial reduction and I believe the laser has several advantages for labiaplasty or labial reduction surgery. The labia minora are mucous membranes and are quite different from the normal skin on the body. The labia have more blood vessels than the other skin […]

Dear Dr. Seckel, I am an African American Woman with a dark complexion. I would like to lighten my skin color to a lighter shade of brown. I’ve noticed a lot of darker skinned African American celebrities that seem to lighten their skin and I wanted to know what procedure they used to do that. I’ve tried many topical bleaching creams but they seem to do minimal. Also, do you know of any surgeons that would perform this procedure? I’m not trying to make my skin white, but I would like to be a lighter shade of brown. Please help me. Robin Sterling Heights, MI.

The […]

Lasergenesis® has been reported to reduce skin pore size in several clinical papers. The important point is that reduction in skin pore size has required 4-5 treatments and 4-5 months to see the result.
The most important thing for you to do is to consult a reputable board certified plastic surgeon who is experienced with […]

Dear Lauren,
Sun exposure definitely increases the risk for Melanoma, especially in people who have a family history of melanoma.
Sun block is crucial and sun avoidance is very important especially for your children.
The best sun blocks today also contain the antioxidant vitamins A, C, and E. Studies have shown that these vitamins triple the effectiveness of […]

Dear Kim,
Thank you for an excellent question!
