Dear Dr. Seckel, Can you tell me the difference between a Microlaserpeel and laser resurfacing. I have fine wrinkles on my face and some brown spots; I am fair skinned and 30 years old. Should I have a Microlaserpeel or laser resurfacing? Thanks, Lindsay, Boston, Ma.

Dear Lindsay,
Both Microlaseerpeel and laser resurfacing provide deep skin exfoliation and are excellent methods for removing wrinkles and brown spots. Unlike many popular non-ablative laser skin rejuvenation techniques and IPL treatments, often called Photo facial or Fotofacial rejuvenation which do not provide skin exfoliation, Microlaserepeel and laser resurfacing actually smooth the skin by removing dead [...]

Dear Dr. Seckel, What is the most effective skin exfoliation method for removing facial wrinkles? I have tried face creams but they don’t work. I have also tried microdermabrasion but I still have wrinkles. I don’t want to have the down time associated with laser resurfacing. Is there anything else? Thanks, Audrey, Scottsdale, Arizona.

Dear Denise,
The microlaser peel, often spelled MicroLaserPeel is one of the most effective new laser skin peel treatments for removal of fine lines and wrinkles on the face. Results of laser resurfacing for wrinkle removal can be beautiful! The chief benefit of the MicroLaserPeel skin peel is first that it actually works, unlike [...]

Dear Dr. Seckel, How is it that the sun can cause aging by damaging the collagen and elastin, while IPL and laser rejuvenate the skin by the same method? Darcy, Spokane, WA

Saturday, October 1st, 2005

Dear Darcy,
Thank you for your very insightful question. Facial skin aging is caused by a number of factors of which the sun is a most important one. Ultraviolet radiation from the sun as you point out causes facial aging by direct damage to the collagen and elastin fibers in the dermis or deep layer of [...]

“Dear Dr.Seckel, I am considering having laser resurfacing done above my lip (wrinkles). Which procedure, in your opinion, is most effective? (C02 or Fraxil).” — Sandy, Lexington, MA

Monday, August 1st, 2005

Dear Sandy,
Ablative laser Resurfacing with the CO2 or Erbium laser is the “Gold Standard”  for plastic surgeons and dermatologists for skin rejuvenation, lip rejuvenation, removing lip wrinkles and lipstick lines and wrinkle removal for the entire face.
The Fraxil is a non-ablative laser and would need to be repeated several times to achieve a similar [...]
