Dear Dr Seckel, I recently had the Micro-laser peel at your clinic. I have to tell you the results have been amazing! I had 4 days down time and was back out and about. I love your staff and feel safe in knowing that you and your staff are so caring and knowledgeable. I have to say that since I have been your patient I have have never had so many complments on my skin. That is without surgery and following your regimen. I Thank you again. I am trying to get back up asap so Dawn can take pictures. Sincerely, Melissa C.

Dear Melissa,
Thank you so much for your kind words and for visiting me at my Boston Plastic Surgery Practice. You are a joy as a patient!
Laser skin rejuvenation and laser peel and the microlaserpeel in particular are wonderful procedures for the right patient, which you so obviously are.

Fraxel laser problems-January 16, 2006-Dear Dr. Seckel, I recently had Fraxel on my face, neck and chest and found it rather painful even though I have a very high pain tolerance. I was told my face would have a sunburned appearance and minimal swelling for 1-3 days. I was swollen for 6 days and I still have redness on my right temple. I went to the doctors today and he said that I have acne or small case of rosacea. I have never had a pimple in my life and I am very worried that my skin will never be the same. I have looked at a zillion websites and cannot find any reaction similar to mine. Most show no side effects. I am on medication and he wants to do a photo facial on me this Wednesday. Is this ok? Have you heard of anything like this? Help… I am only 40 years old, and looked like a young 32 yr old - I so wish that I never done this. Joey, Austin, Texas.

Dear Joey,Please don’t worry; I am sure your skin will improve in time. Skin redness and irritation you describe can occur after a deep Fraxel treatment lor any laser skin rejuvenation procedure.
It is also common to have an acne type outbreak after any ablative laser skin rejuvenation procedure, which causes exfoliation on the face. The […]

Dear Joey,
Please don’t worry; I am sure your skin will improve in time.
It is common to have an acne type outbreak after any ablative laser skin rejuvenation procedure which causes skin exfoliation on the face. The Fraxel® does ablate (remove) tissue. Because the Fraxel® does micro ablation (unlike laser resurfacing which removes all of the […]

Dear Dr. Seckel, I had CO2 laser resurfacing in 1999 and as a result, I have much larger pores and some loss of pigmentation. I have had 4 VBeam laser treatments in 2005, which did help to even the skin color (a little) but not much else. What would you recommend to decrease the pore size and smooth the texture of my sensitive skin? Thank you, Taylor, Powder Springs, GA

Monday, January 16th, 2006

Dear Taylor,
Loss of pigment-called hypopigmentation and enlarged pores are sometimes a sequelae of deep laser resurfacing. I am happy to hear the V beam laser has evened your color.
At the present time I recommend LaserGenesis® for reducing the size of enlarged pores. LaserGenesis® can also even skin texture and remove red spots, flush and Rosacea […]

Dear Dr Seckel, I was wondering what you think of the new procedure with the Fraxil® laser? I went to a laser clinic and they said that I would be a good candidate for the procedure. I have some old acne scars on my cheeks so that is the only part I was planning on doing. My fear is that I took Accutane® about 2-3years ago and I noticed that my skin is very sensitive, for example when I went to get my eyebrows waxed some of my skin ripped off, of course not much but it never did that before. I have a fear that my skin will be a different pigmentation than the rest of my skin. Can this happen? Please let me know what you think. Thank you, Sue Colorado Springs, CO

Dear Sue,
Thank you for an excellent and very important question about Laser Skin Rejuvenation.
With your history of Accutane® use and that your skin is fragile I would not use the Fraxel® laser or any laser skin rejuvenation procedure on your face. The Fraxel® laser is an ablative laser which means it creates a laser peel […]

Dear Dr. Seckel, I am wondering if Sciton laser resurfacing can be done again, and if so how much time in between treatments? Thank you, Mary, Peterborough, Canada

Friday, January 13th, 2006

Dear Mary,
The laser skin rejuvenation or laser skin peel called Sciton® Laser Resurfacing (a procedure which goes much deeper than the Sciton® MicroLaserPeel®) can sometimes be repeated but only if the skin has enough skin appendages (oil glands, sweat glands, and hair follicles) left after the first laser skin resurfacing to enable the skin to […]

Dear Dr Seckel, I have rosacea and light brown skin color. I have skin thickening and was wondering if the Sciton MicroLaserPeel® might be a safe option. Jean-Francois, Mississauga

Saturday, December 17th, 2005

Dear Jean-Francois,
The Sciton® MicroLaserPeel® laser facial skin rejuvenation technique is safe for light brown skin as long as the procedure is not done too deeply. The average 40-micron microlaserpeel laser skin rejuvenation peel would be safe and should not cause any color change. Results can be excellent.
Rosacea can be made worse by any […]

Hello Doctor. I have a few visible wrinkles under my eyes that I do not think will improve much using topical creams since some of them are really deep. Is there a laser treatment for this problem, or any other surgical procedure that will get rid of the wrinkles under the eye? George, Toronto, ON

Saturday, December 17th, 2005

Dear George,
I am happy to say that there are several new and very exciting non-surgical eyelid rejuvenation methods for effectively removing eyelid wrinkles. Excellent results are possible.
The most effective and quick eyelid rejuvenation method is laser skin rejuvenation treatment with the Erbium Laser called the microlaserpeel, although there is a 7-10 day period during which […]

Dr Seckel is there anything I can do to remove crow’s feet permanently. Botox is a temporary cure. What can remove crow’s feet permanently? Thanks, Leslie, St Louis, Mo.

Sunday, November 20th, 2005

Dear Leslie,
You are correct in your assertion that Botox only provides a temporary correction of crow’s feet. Botox is a very satisfactory solution for crow’s feet around the eyes for most people.
There is however a more permanent solution for crow’s feet. Once the crow’s feet have become permanent lines in the skin around the eyes, […]

Dr. Dr. Seckel, Is Fraxel safe for oriental skin? Thank you. Diana

Saturday, November 19th, 2005

Dear Diana,
Thank you for a very important question. Asian skin is very unique and must be treated very carefully when using any type of laser skin rejuvenation or skin exfoliation treatment. Find a plastic surgeon or dermatologist who has experience treating asian skin.
Typically Asian skin is very smooth and delicate and usually ages less […]
