Dear Dr. Seckel, I am a 26-year-old female with very dark under-eye circles. They are hereditary and I have had them since I was small. I was considering and even booked an appointment with a South African doctor who was planning to inject a fat filler into the skin under my eyes or perhaps perform a blepharoplasty. I am a bit concerned about both options and would like to know your opinion. Many thanks and hope to hear from you soon, Linda, Capetown, South Africa

Dear Linda,

Results of fat injection into the eyelid have not been good in my opinion and complications including lumps under the eyes, ectropion and injury to the eyeball have been reported. I do not use this technique for that reason. I also do not inject fillers around the eyes as I believe it is dangerous to do so, and the results are usually disappointing and temporary.

I use a transconjunctival laser blepharoplasty with arcus marginalis release and fat repositioning (through the inside pink part of the eyelid) to correct dark circles under the eyes. This modern plastic surgery Blepharoplasty technique is the best solution I have found for permanent correction of dark circles under the eyes in my practice.

For more information on dark circles under the eyes, fillers, blepharoplasty and plastic surgery read Save Your Face or contact me.

Thank you,

Dr Seckel
