The most long lasting eyelid rejuvenation technique to correct dark circles under the eyes and hollow eyes involves a blepharoplasty or eyelid rejuvenation surgery with fat grafting to fill out the hollow eye socket. I do this operation through the inside pink part of the eyelid using a technique called a transconjunctival laser blepharoplasty with arcus marginalis release and fat grafting. Occaisionally a tear trough implant is placed as well. This is a safe operation if performed by a board certified plastic surgeon who is very experienced in eyelid surgery, but it is not an operation I would have done by someone who is not experienced in this technique.
There are also make ups which can help a lot. Covermark® and Dermablend® are two good brands.
Some doctors are performing fat injections into the eyelid or soft tissue filler injections into the eyelid with products like Restylane® but I do not recommend this technique. Please check my archives on the right hand side of your screen to read the previous blogs on dark circles under the eyes and you will read about the experience of some people who have had problems with injections around the eyelids.
Also it is important to tell you that the dark color of the eyelid skin cannot be corrected. The color is due to the fact that the eyelid skin is very thin and the purple color of the muscle under the skin shows through. The make up I mentioned earlier is the only thing I know of that can help the dark eyelid color.
I want to emphasize that the eyelid rejuvenation blepharoplasty to correct hollow eyes and dark circles under the eyes is not a routine blepharoplasty technique and skill and experience are required to perform this operation safely. It is very important that you seek consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon who has experience in this technique.
